No, thanks!

My nephew was sick before he left Texas to come to our house and my brother in law was sick on Thanksmas day so I shouldn't have been so surprised when I got a call from Alea's school to come pick her up today. I am surprised it happened so fast though. I talked to Davin on the phone and it sounds like he is coming down with it too. At least they can keep each other company tomorrow if they both end up staying home. Feel better family!

Christmas Lights

Tonight we went out to dinner with my sister and her family and then went to see the Christmas lights on the square in Fayetteville. It is finally starting to get cold here so our Texas family thought they were going to freeze to death.

Thanksmas 2012

My family celebrates Thanksgiving and Christmas on the same day. We have been calling this day Thanksmas for several years now. My sister and her family travel to our house from Austin, TX and my parents travel from Louisburg, Kansas to meet at my house for a yummy meal and Christmas presents. It is great to have one Christmas celebration over before December. Also, the kids get new toys and clothes to play with and they have a month with these new things before they get more toys and clothes at the December Christmas celebrations.

After our meal Alea went into her room and changed into the angel costume she had made. Alea is very serious about her holidays and loves to decorate and dress up.

Turkey Trot 5K

Becky and I got up this morning and went to our local triple A baseball park to run the Turkey Trot 5K. Becky has done a duathlon before but has never done a 5k. I'm pretty sure she didn't even sweat running with me. I did earn a new personal record so that is good. I made Bec and I turkey shirts to wear. They were a hit. We got several compliments. Davin came to the race to take our photos and cheer us on. Pat stayed home with the kids.

Wreck It Ralph

This morning we went to see Wreck It Ralph thanks to Alea's orthodontist. The ortho office had a movie premier (a few days after the movie came out) for Wreck It Ralph. Patients and potential patients were invited to see the movie for free. We reserved four tickets and took Becky with us. It was a cute movie.

Planter Fasciitas

My sister recommended this foot contraption for my Planters Fasciitas. I thought it was funny that she recommended this Walgreens cure to me when my brother in law is a physical therapist. He recommended some physical therapy tricks that I have already tried. My sister agreed with me that they didn't work that well.    I hope that using this for a few days will help my heels feel better. Running is a painful sport.

Girls on the Run 5k

Today was the race Alea and I have been training for since September. We had a great time at the Girls on the Run 5K in Bentonville. We started out on the square in Bentonville with a couple thousand of our closest friends. There were booths for face painting, color spray paint for hair, free snack items, along with music and dancing before the race started. I ran with Alea and three other girls from my school. I was worried that little Miss L would be fast and that little Miss M would be slow. I figured Miss K would be about my speed and I was right for the most part. Miss L pretty much kicked my trash! Alea felt the same way. Miss L kept saying, "Let's run to the sign." There were a lot of signs! She was a motivator. I was worried about keeping track of four girls with so many people but we all kept track of each other very well. The girls took off and finished strong at the end. I love how you have to push them to finish the last mile but when the finish line comes into view they ditch you like you were holding them back the entire time. Okay, I was holding Miss L back but not the other three.

grade together for one year before I became an ESOL teacher.

 Davin missed Alea crossing the finish line (because he saw me coming  

and didn't realize my girls had ditched me and were ahead of my by several seconds) 

so this is a re-enactment of her finish.

Alea and her friend E saw their awesome teacher Mrs. Hinson after the race. Mrs. Hinson did the 10K.

 I don't think adults are suppose to get a medal but our head GOTR coach hooked me up. 

This was my fourth 5K and my first medal. I'll take it however I can get it. 

I had invited Becky to come watch the race but she wasn't sure she wanted to get up that early. 

She surprised me by being there to cheer me on at the finish. Thank you Becky!

 This horse is at a Bentonville flower shop. Last February we painted the horse at the Fayetteville store for the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts. It was a lot of fun. Someone painted this horse for GOTR 

so we had to stop by after the race to take our picture with the horse.

Alea loves animals...even the concrete kind.

I am already looking forward to the Girls on the Run season in the spring and the spring GOTR race. 

This is such a great program for girls! Girls on the Run is so much fun!
