Today was our first Girl Scout meeting of the year. We were having a simple meeting with a minimal amount of paperwork for the parents (it seems like we have lots of paperwork every meeting). We were working on our Celebrating Community badge so we learned the words to My Country 'Tis of Thee and wrote one word or drew a picture next to each line/phrase to help explain the words to the girls. Thanks to technology we got to show the girls a video of the song and let them hear the song too (which is great since I can't sing). Then we made cards to send to soldiers currently deployed and get well cards for soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center. A little bit before our meeting was over it really started raining. The power went off in the school but we were in a well lit spot near windows. Haley started checking her phone while the girls and I were doing an activity. She gave me "the look" and said we needed to move our activity to the music room, "Now!". The girls and I calmly moved to the music room which is an interior room with now windows. We ended up staying there playing games until about 15 minutes after our pick up time when parents could finally make it out to pick up their girls. The girls were so great and calm. No drama! Yea!!
When I got home I heard that it was a micro burst storm and that a few roofs a half mile from the school were ripped off. Last month part of a roof to a school in town had its roof ripped off due to a micro burst.
The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character. I think the girls showed they are really working on being courageous, confident, and full of character.
