Today was my first 5k! I finished in 48:58. That is my second best time. My shins were killing me for the first mile. I even thought about stopping they hurt so bad, but Haley was a great motivator and kept at me to keep going and to work hard the entire race. At one point she even held my hand (in an attempt to drag me along). There were race volunteers along the route and she said they were going to think we were weird for holding hands. I told her that they wouldn't think that because they would be able to tell she was dragging me. I felt like a little kid in Wal*Mart being dragged by her mom. :) It worked though. Our friend Emily joined Haley and I for this race. This was Emily's third 5k and Haley's first. Emily bolted from the start and finished in 36 minutes. When we got close to the finish line Emily met us and to encourage us. Haley decided to sprint to the finish and Emily kept me company. Haley finished 40 seconds faster than me. It felt good to finish the race and know I have done something I have never done before.
